Hi, just want to clarify which kick should be stronger, 1st or 2nd kick. I see that in this video the swimmer kicks harder when the hands are pushing water passed the hip and have a lighter kick when the hands enter the water after the recovery.
Hi Joseph,
We like to see both down kicks (K1 and K2) strong in fly. They are often not. The knee bend prior to each kick is also often different, but should be similar. The same range of acceptable knee bend still applies: 50-75 degrees. The timing of each kick is also important, with the peak propulsion of K1 occurring when the hands are near the belly button and K2 peak occurring precisely as the arms hit the water from the recovery.

Is this supposed to be recommended way?
