    Hi Adam,

    This is a test we developed which is mostly an indicator of a swimmer’s kicking speed and ankle (plantar flexion) flexibility. It is not exact nor standardized, but is a pretty good indicator for the latter.
    We like our swimmers to be within 10 seconds for 50 yards or 50 meters, but find out elite athletes are usually within 5 seconds.

    We also do a 25 yard or meter underwater dolphin kick vs freestyle swim time comparison to determine the appropriate numbers of dolphin kicks off start and turns. We then use a nomogram which recently published to determine the right amount of kicks. You can find that on our Aquanotes.
